Getting Started With EJ Capital

Investing can lead to huge returns down the line, but it takes knowledge and patience to navigate the risks and uncertainty that come with it.

Prepare yourself by reading books and articles about the finance industry and brushing up on the terminology and risks of investing. Resources include the Financial Literacy Resource Directory from the US Department of Treasury, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Note that investing is nowhere near as simple as depositing money into a bank account. For one, bank deposits are protected by federal deposit insurance while the value of stocks, bonds, and other securities changes with market conditions. Even the wisest investments aren’t guaranteed; you could see a small return or even a loss.

That’s why you need to gain a good understanding of the stock market. The Securities Exchange Commission website (SEC.gov) is an excellent place to start. It includes a wealth of information on how the stock market works, how to execute orders, and more.

Though independent research will give you a strong foundation for beginning your investment journey, consulting with a financial professional gives you access to more knowledge and tools for navigating the complexities of investing. A financial professional can also provide financial training and one-on-one coaching to help you better understand your finances.

After You Invest

A financial professional is an asset even after you’ve made your initial investments. You still need to protect your investments, diversify your portfolio, protect your accounts and assets, and adjust your financial plans to your changing needs and circumstances. All of these responsibilities are helped by maintaining an open and honest relationship with your financial advisor. Keeping an advisor informed of your goals and current finances will give them the information needed to manage your portfolio with your future in mind.
